On Sunday, August 3rd at about 9:00 in the evening... we were at Kimball's Grandmother's house hanging out and talking. We were enjoying listening to our little second cousin (Ally is almost 2) say things like "truck" (which didn't quite sound like "truck"... I'll leave it to your imagination as to what it actually sounded like) and Kimball was holding Jill.
Now, we had calculated Jill to be due the following weekend - so it was much to our surprise when suddenly Jill got Kimball wet... he said something like: "I think Jill's water just broke… either that or she peed on me."
Now, normally I would have laughed at the thought of my husband holding our dog and her peeing on his arm, but I knew better. Not only is that not like Jill - but she was HUGE with pups... I mean HUGE. If you know our Jill, you know she is a TINY dog - just about 5 pounds and a small, petite thing. Anyway, I did not laugh... rather, I panicked. I was not expecting this for another week! And to make matters "worse" we were not at home!
Anyway, long story short, we borrowed (er, was given) a box to take her home in with some rags... I sat in the back seat because she was not about to stay in that box without me by her side. Once we headed home and she realized I wasn't going anywhere she was pretty much fine.
It was awesome to watch her have contractions... last time I was too nervous to really get to experience the birth with her - Kimball "was the Doctor and I was the Nurse" (as Kimball would tell you). I could see her body tighten up and she would lift her head as she had a contraction. Not a noise came out of this little girl as she gave birth (amazing!).
She delivered 2 pups in the car on the way home (about a 25 minute drive) and then the other 2 came after we got her settled in her room and more comfy surroundings.
She had 3 boys and to my grand excitement - 1 absolutely beautiful little girl. All 3 of the boys are "brindle" (a mixture of colors) and white and the girl is perfectly black and white. She will no doubt be a beautiful black and white like her brother from another litter - "Chip".
Today they are 12 days old. It is amazing how fast they grow. They are plumping up and doing great! And so are Jack and Jill!
It is fun to see how interested Jack is in the puppies and what is going on... Jill likes to keep him distant for the most part but is getting a bit friendlier as time goes on.
During the labor it was almost as if Jack knew what was going on. He was being very attentive to Jill - trying to watch and listen, yet definitely keeping his distance. He needed no warning from Jill to do so - it was as if he just knew.
Anyway, puppies, Mom and Dad are all great! They are getting along fabulously and all are happy and healthy!
Stay tuned for more updates and photos!
